Dr. Andreas Mailath-Pokorny

Dr. Andreas Mailath-Pokorny has a doctorate in law and graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Vienna. Further education led him to Johns Hopkins University (School of Advanced International Studies, Bologna Center), where he obtained a diploma in International Relations; and the Department of Political Science at the University of Vienna. He began his career in the diplomatic service in the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1986. From 1988 to 1996 he was in the cabinet of the Austrian Chancellor Franz Vranitzky - most recently as office manager. He then headed the Department of Art Affairs in the Federal Chancellery until 2001 when he moved to the city government of Vienna as a city councilor for culture and science. His agendas were expanded from 2015 to the areas of sports, information and ICT and he was, until May 2018, a city councilor. Starting in the academic year 2018/19 he became rector of the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. Dr. Mailath-Pokorny is also president of the Association of Social Democratic academics, intellectuals and artists.
