Sheldon Chumir

Sheldon M. Chumir, (1940-1992), was a Rhodes Scholar, tax lawyer, rock concert promoter, politician, civil libertarian, public interest advocate, professor, businessman, civil libertarian and member of Alberta’s Legislative Assembly (1986 – 1992).

Founder of the Alberta Civil Liberties Association, he was a tireless supporter of public education, civil rights and individual freedoms.

The Foundation continues an exploration of policy and behavioral choices, as well as a commitment to discussion of differences with friends and foes alike, in search of shared underlying values and societal improvement to which Sheldon committed his efforts and resources in life.
